Elias Pettersson followed up his two-goal performance against the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday with a goal and an assist on Tuesday night against the Oilers, helping the Canucks jump out to a 3-1 lead in the first period. But for the second straight game, Vancouver wasn’t able to convert a two-goal lead heading into the first intermission into a win, this time collapsing in the third period to lose 4-3 in regulation. Thatcher Demko allowed four goals on 29 shots in the loss and fell to 4-8-1 with a 3.37 goals-against average and an .898 save percentage.

Leon Draisaitl racked up three assists and Dominik Kahun scored two goals in Edmonton’s comeback win on Tuesday. Veteran goaltender Mike Smith improved to 5-0 on the season for the Oilers with a 2.05 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage. Edmonton is 10-2 over its last 12 games and has allowed only two goals per game over its current 7-1 streak. The Oilers have had plenty of success in the offensive zone during the Connor McDavid era, but improved play in the defensive zone could lead to postseason success in 2021.
