It’s official! The Sedins have rejoined the Vancouver Canucks

News that was expected to drop tomorrow has come down early.

The Vancouver Canucks confirmed Tuesday afternoon that franchise icons Daniel and Henrik Sedin are rejoining the organization.

The pair will work in the hockey operations department as special advisors to general manager Jim Benning.

“The Sedins will learn and support all areas of the team’s hockey operations including player evaluation, development and communication from the amateur to NHL level,” the Canucks said in a statement. “They will work collaboratively with Abbotsford’s AHL staff and coaches, participate in amateur and pro scouting meetings and participate in planning for the Draft, Free Agency and trade deadline.”

In a statement, Benning said the team was excited to have them rejoin.

“Henrik and Daniel’s hockey intellect and experience is exceptional,” said Benning. “We’ve had an open line of communication since they retired as players. They are students of the game, eager to learn, who will make valuable contributions and strengthen our staff. We are very pleased to add their knowledge and passion for the game and have them begin the next stage of their careers with us.”

The brothers, who were drafted second and third overall in the 1999 draft, both appeared in over 1300 games for the Canucks before retiring after the 2018 season. Now 40, the pair had their jerseys retired by the club on Feb. 12, 2020.

Henrik leads the franchise in games played (1,330), assists (830) and points (1,070) while Daniel leads in goals (393), power play goals (138), game winning goals (86) and shots on goal (3,474).
