With back up netminder Richard Bachman under the weather, the Utica Comets have recalled Michael Garteig from the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL today ahead of their game against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The team also announced today that they had released forward David Dziurzynski from his PTO deal.
As usual, Ben Birnell of the Utica Observer-Dispatch was on top of things and sent out a tweet to let us know what the Comets were up to.
As Ben points out above, Dziurzynski put up three goals and three helpers during his 27 games with the Comets this season. The forward also brought a physical presence to the Comets lineup that was missing without Darren Archibald on the roster. Dziurzynski also had the Comets bumping up against the vet rule issues that they faced earlier in the season. With the recent PTO signing of David Arseneau, who also brings a physical presence, Dziurzynski became the odd man out.
Garteig has played in 22 games this season with Kalamazoo, posting a record of 11-10-0 and a goals-against average of 3.85 and a save percentage of 0.887.
The Comets are back in action today at 4:00 pm Pacific when the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins come to town for game number 65 of the Comets season. As always, CanucksArmy will have your post-game report following the game.
