Pre-Game
The Utica Comets made it four straight wins to start the season when they obliterated the defending Calder Cup champs from Charlotte with an 8-2 drubbing yesterday. They will be looking to keep that going today with division rival Rochester Americans (Buffalo affiliate) in town for game number five of the season.
The Amerks, for their part, have gone 3-1-0-1 in their first five games of the season. Rochester last played to a 4-3 shootout loss to the Cleveland Monsters yesterday. The Americans have outscored their competition by a 13-12 margin this year while the Comets have scored a league-high 22 goals and have given up just 10.
Rochester’s power play has gone 2/22 this year, while their penalty kill has given up five goals while shorthanded 23 times. The Comets power play needs some work as they have scored just twice on 17 opportunities, but their kill has been decent, giving up two goals while shorthanded 17 times… funny that their PP/PK look so similar, yet opposite at the same time.
The Amerks are lead by Tage Thompson with two goals and three helpers in five games, while defender Zach Redmond sits second with one goal and four assists in four games. Scott Wilson rounds out their top three with one goal and three assists to give himself four points in five games.
Brandon Hickey leads the Rochester rookie crew with… well, zero points. The Amerks have no points from their rookies so far this year. The Comets’ rookies are lead by Brogan Rafferty and his goal and two helpers over his first four games. Rafferty is off to a solid start while paired up with Guillaume Brisebois.
The Comets are led by Reid Boucher with his six goals and one helper to give him seven points through four games. Nikolay Goldobin sits second with his seven assists in three games, while Kole Lind rounds out the Utica top three with one goal and five assists in four contests.
