The 9-4-0-0 Utica Comets got back into the win column on Saturday but they have already put that game in the rearview mirror as they welcome the 6-4-2-0 Syracuse Crunch, (Tampa Bay affiliate) to town for game number 14 of the season today at 3:00 pm Eastern/12:00 noon Pacific.
Syracuse last played to a 2-0 loss to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, while the Comets are coming off a 3-2 overtime win over Binghamton. Syracuse has scored 39 goals this season and given up 42, while the Comets have outscored their competition by a 45-30 margin.
Syracuse has gone 13/57 on the power play to give themselves a success rate of 22.8% with the extra man, while their penalty kill has given up just four goals while down a man 53 times for a 92.5% success rate.
The Comets, for their part, have scored five power-play goals on 43 opportunities for a success rate of 11.6% while giving up five goals while down a man 49 times for an 89.8% success rate.
Alex Barre-Boulet is the scoring leader in Syracuse with seven goals and three helpers to give himself 10 points in 12 games, while Cameron Gaunce sits second with 10 points as well, all assists in 11 games. Former Comet Cory Conacher rounds out their top three with four goals and five assists, giving him nine points in 12 games.
Peter Abbandonato leads the Crunch rookie crew with two goals in six games this year. Abbandonato was at Vancouver Canucks rookie camp two summers ago. The Comets rookie squad is led by Brogan Rafferty and his seven points in 13 games.
Nikolay Goldobin is the Comets active points leader with two goals and 10 assists in 12 games this season. Kole Lind sits second with three goals and seven helpers, giving him 10 points in 13 games, while Francis Perron rounds out the top three with two goals and six assists in 11 games.
Season Series
The two clubs have squared off once already this season with the Comets coming away with a 6-2 win. The Comets and Crunch both went 0/5 with the man advantage in that game.
Nikolay Goldobin leads the series with three points, all assists, while Zack MacEwen, Vincent Arseneau, and Chris Mueller have each picked up a pair of points.
Scott Wedgewood stopped 32 of 38 shots that he faced last time around, but gave up six goals for the loss, while Michael DiPietro stopped 16 of 18 for the win.
