THE INTRO
It’s Benn Bowl II. Jordie Benn travels back to Dallas to take on his brother Jamie. They were once teammates but tonight that doesn’t matter. The Canucks have found a way to gut out extra points and players like Adam Gaudette are making it possible. The goaltending will need to be better tonight and the Stars aren’t going to be pushovers. Dallas is 8-1-1 in their last 10 and have won three straight. No biggy!
Dallas doesn’t have Tim Schaller, though and they definitely don’t have Quinn Hughes. But they’re 8-1-1 so it probably isn’t a big deal for them.
No Schaller, though.

LINEUPS
Antoine Roussel is cleared for contact and could be back in the lineup sooner than later. Jay Beagle will be back in the lineup so Bo Horvat won’t have to play every second shift, thanks, Jay! Brandon Sutter could start practicing on the road trip and even Micheal Ferland is skating. A completely healthy Canucks squad? Amazing!
Jacob Markstrom should be the starter tonight. He got the night off on Saturday so he should be amped for the start.

GAME NOTES AND A STAT OR TWO
  • Jordie Benn had an assist against the Stars last week in Vancouver but scoring a goal against his former team would be much sweeter. His brother Jamie would be excited to score a goal as well. Jamie just scored his first goal in 16 games. The guy won the Art Ross and he’s scoring at the same clip as Loui Eriksson. There’s a joke there somewhere.
  • Both teams are vying for a playoff spot early on and a win would put the victorious club three points back of first in the West. All the points matter and for the Canucks, some of the hardest ones will be earned this month.
  • Brock Boeser has seen some increased ice time lately and he’s been somewhat quiet on the score sheet but two goals and two assists aren’t exactly terrible numbers. Five of Boeser’s last 10 games have had him over 20 minutes in ice time. It’s a trend on the Canucks right now and it’s going to bite one of their stars hard if they push them too far.
  • Adam Gaudette hasn’t just earned an NHL roster spot, he’s one of the top performers in November. Gaudette’s three power-play goals are just behind Connor McDavid for the NHL lead with five. If Travis Green subscribes to the French Press setup, he might get a few more.
  • Loui Eriksson hasn’t registered 10 shots total this season. Total. I had a soft spot for him but that’s a roster spot. Time’s up Loui!

MY 94 CENTS
The Canucks are right in the thick of things and they’re about to take another step. Getting Jay Beagle back is bigger than just the penalty kill. It’s less ice time for Horvat and Pettersson and Gaudette. It means there is another defensive forward in the lineup that can do a lot of the things Alex Edler can do.
Canucks win this one and it might even be messy.
AND ANOTHER THING…
It’s impressive but I always wonder “Maybe the goalie just sucks?”
