THE INTRO
Winning is a great feeling and the Canucks will try and replicate their most recent win against the Nashville Predators with their latest opponent the Dallas Stars this evening. Vancouver ended the season series with Dallas last year with identical 3-2 shootout wins but unfortunately dropped the series opener 2-1 in Vancouver.
This is a different Canucks squad and the Stars haven’t seen Quinn Hughes or the reinvented Tim Schaller. Beware Texas hockey team, beware!

LINEUPS
Injuries have finally mounted and the Canucks have called in the reinforcements. Zack MacEwen and Tyler Graovac have been called up as Brandon Sutter will be out for a bit (IR) and Jay Beagle is fighting an injury (unknown) as well. Jalen Chatfield has been reassigned to Utica.
Based on the recent play of Thatcher Demko it wouldn’t be the biggest faux pas to let him start against the Stars and put Jacob Markstrom in on Saturday against the Avalanche in the Skate jersey game. Cory Schneider was famous for starting against Dallas in the Cup run teams so this wouldn’t be out of character.

Roman Polak (sternum) may make his season debut this evening but will not likely factor in as a major player on the score sheet. Roope Hintz (LBI) will not be in the lineup tonight. John Klingberg will be out as well which is a massive loss for Dallas but they have the horses to make it work. Mattias Janmark
Anton Khubodin will be the starter after Ben Bishop got the start (and win) last night in Calgary.

GAME NOTES AND A STAT OR TWO
  • Brock Boeser has been somewhat effective in his last 10 games. Six goals and six assists in that time are only one assist below Elias Pettersson for the team lead. These two guys have been the straw stir in the drink as of late which is good because the secondary scoring hasn’t been on to back them up.
  • Even in the worst stretch of the young season, the Canucks are still in the top third of the league for the fewest goals allowed. Dallas is T-2 with 45 while the Canucks aren’t far behind with 49. It’ll be a nail biter or a blowout. Can’t imagine either team will stay true to their rank tonight.
  • The Stars are taking over where the Canucks were on the PP from a season ago. Dallas is operating at 14% with the man-advantage. This is not good I am told. Vancouver has a healthy 25% rating and if they can move around just a little bit more, that number can start to climb quickly.
  • Once again, Alex Edler and Chris Tanev are blocking their fair share of shots. On the PK, Tanev, and Edler lead the league in blocked shots with 19 and 16, respectively. If the ice time doesn’t level them, the repeated pucks to the body will. The clock is ticking on their latest trip to LTIR.
  • Tanner Pearson was in serious jeopardy of seeing a healthy scratch but his two-goal performance saved his bacon. Pearson will need to shoulder more responsibility as the injuries are coming and the callups are looking for their chance to shine.

Truer words
Well, the positive of all of this is that he can’t do it against the Canucks
MY 94 CENTS
I made a claim on The PP1 Podcast a few weeks ago that by the Skate jersey game against the Avs that we would know the ultimate identity of what the Canucks are this season. A win tonight proves the four-game blip was just that and the team will go through a few similar situations but will bounce back and show they are a team to be taken seriously.
Beating the Stars is always a chore and Dallas will be hungry to put up another win after beating Calgary last night so if the Canucks can be ahead at the end of this, I like their chances overall this season.
I have the Canucks winning in regulation.
AND ANOTHER THING…
I just feel like if you’re vegetarian, would you actually want something that tastes like sausage? Am I wrong? @ me. I’m interested in this.
