Canucks Army Postgame: Idle Hands

The Canucks kicked off their road trip on Tuesday night in New Jersey against old pal Cory Schneider and his New Jersey Devils. This game resulted in almost nothing good for the Canucks, who started of their trip off with a loss and a scary injury to an already sparse d-corps. Here’s how it all went down:

THE RUNDOWN

About four minutes into the game, Taylor Hall was given some space and he did what he does best.
Late in the first, Michael Chaput awkwardly shoved Travis Zajac, who went face-first into the boards and came up bleeding. The Devils were not happy with this, and the ensuing instigating and bench minor penalties gave the Canucks a full two minutes of 5-on-3 time.
The Canucks managed to capitalize, tying the game at 1. That Daniel Sedin guy is pretty decent.
Shortly after, there was a scary incident when Taylor Hall knocked Philip Larsen out cold with an enormous hit behind the Canucks net. The ensuing scrum only added concern, as players rushed in with no regard for the unconscious Larsen. Jacob Markstrom and Markus Granlund did a good job to ensure that Larsen did not get stepped on before he was stretchered off the ice.
Both Kyle Palmieri and Ben Lovejoy scored, putting the Devils up 3-1 by the end of the second period.
Henrik Sedin would start the Canucks second comeback attempt of the game with a neat little shot early in the third.
The score would remain 3-2 Devils, despite the Canucks’ best efforts. Well, despite the Canucks’ efforts.

THE STATS

NOTES

  • There was some relatively positive news from Dan Murphy, who provided an update on Larsen during the second intermission:
  • Brendan Gaunce got into a fight tonight, which isn’t something Brendan Gaunce usually does. It was both he and Damon Severson first NHL fight, so neither really dominated, but I’d give the decision to Gaunce.
  • Canuck nation was well represented in Jersey, especially by this guy who took about 400 selfies.
  • Nikita Tryamkin makes everyone look comically small.
