The Canucks and Blues traded leads in the second period of Game 3 as St. Louis erased Vancouver’s 1-0 lead in just under seven minutes and Vancouver trailed 2-1 for only 37 seconds before tying the game back up at two apiece. That score held into overtime where Brayden Schenn eventually broke the tie on a partial breakaway. Elias Pettersson recorded a goal and an assist in the loss to bring his postseason totals to four goals and five assists while Jacob Markstrom had another strong game in goal stopping 46 of the 49 shots that he faced.
Monday night’s game will be the second of a back-to-back. The Canucks are 5-4 on the moneyline when playing their second game of a back-to-back this season per the OddsShark NHL Database.
After losing Game 2, Jordan Binnington fell to 0-4 with a 4.27 goals-against average and an .862 save percentage since the NHL’s return in August. Binnington was 30-13 with a 2.56 GAA and a .912 save percentage during the regular season, but head coach Craig Berube decided to give backup goaltender Jake Allen the nod in Game 3. The move proved to be a wise one as Allen stopped 39 of the 41 shots he faced to give St. Louis its first win in the NHL bubble after five straight losses.
Monday night’s total is set at 5.5 goals at betting sites. The OVER is 3-1 in Vancouver’s last four games.
Vladimir Tarasenko and Alex Steen are both listed as questionable for Game 4. The Canucks should have no shortage of confidence heading into Game 4 after winning the first two games of the series and forcing overtime in the third. But solving Jake Allen and taking a stranglehold of the series at 3-1 would create a much different vibe for the rest of the series than allowing St. Louis to even things up at 2-2 would.
