The Vancouver Canucks have recalled goaltender @Arturs Silovs from the Abbotsford Canucks under emergency conditions, the club announced on Tuesday morning.
With @Jaroslav Halak injured and @Thatcher Demko conspicuously absent from practice on Monday, the Canucks moved to summon the Latvian goaltender while also placing @Tucker Poolman on long-term injured reserve.
Silovs, 21, is a 6’3″, 217-lb. goaltender who hails from the Latvian capital of Riga. The Canucks originally selected him in the sixth round of the 2019 NHL Draft.
In 10 American Hockey League games with Abbotsford this season, Silovs has a 3–6–0 record and an .888 save percentage; additionally, he has a 6–3–1 record and a .920 save percentage in 10 ECHL games with the Trois-Rivières Lions.
Poolman, 28, has not played since April 3 and has appeared in only 40 games with the Canucks this season, scoring one goal and three points.
With their playoff hopes hanging in the balance, the Canucks will return to action at Rogers Arena on Tuesday evening to take on the Seattle Kraken at 7:00 p.m. MT.
