The 2024-25 Calder Cup Champions, Abbotsford Canucks have released their 2026-27 schedule as they look to bounce back after a disappointing year defending their title.
For the second straight season, Abbotsford will begin the season on the road against the Calgary Wranglers, followed by another weekend road trip against the Colorado Eagles. However, the key difference is that their season begins a week earlier on October 2, rather than October 10 last year.
Abbotsford won’t play their home opener until Week 3 of the season, when they welcome Coachella Valley Firebirds to the Rogers Forum. They will stay in Abbotsford the following week for another back-to-back games against the Wranglers.
November, January, and March are their three busiest months, with 12 games in November and January, and 13 in March. November is evenly split, with six home games and six away games. January is their busiest home month, with eight games in Rogers Forum and four away, while March is their heaviest travel month, with seven games on the road and six at home.
The Canucks close out their season with six straight road games against the Firebirds, Henderson Silver Knights, Bakersfield Condors, and San Jose Barracuda. These six games will stretch from March 31-April 10.
Sixty-four of Abbotsford’s 72 games are against Pacific Division opponents. They play the Calgary Wranglers the most, 12 times this season, followed by eight matches against the Colorado Eagles, San Jose Barracuda, Bakersfield Condors, Tucson Roadrunners, and Henderson Silver Knights. Abbotsford faces the division opponents Coachella Valley Firebirds, Ontario Reign, and San Diego Gulls just four times, the same amount as the Manitoba Moose and Hamilton Hammers – formerly the Bridgeport Islanders.
Abbotsford will be under new leadership next season, and former head coach Manny Malhotra and general manager Ryan Johnson have been promoted to the NHL club. New Abbotsford Canucks general manager Richard Seeley is still working through the hiring process to find the next bench boss in the American League.
A few of the Canucks’ top prospects are expected to play their first professional seasons in Abbotsford this season. After going on a lengthy run to the WHL Finals with the Prince Albert Raiders last season, centre prospect Braeden Cootes will jump to the professional ranks next season. Riley Patterson will get a full run in Abbotsford next season after a four-game stint in the AHL at the end of last season, scoring one goal and one assist.
