Ilya Mikheyev’s first game in a Canucks uniform at Rogers Arena didn’t go as planned.
Skating on a line with Elias Pettersson and Andrey Kuzmenko — as he did in preseason — Mikheyev left in the second period of Sunday night’s home tilt against the Calgary Flames after taking this hit from Flames defenceman Nic Meloche:
Mikheyev went straight to the Canucks’ room and the club announced that he wouldn’t be returning to tonight’s contest shortly after.
Prior to exiting with the injury, Mikheyev showed flashes of his trademark speed and some penalty-killing efficiency while on a unit with Elias Pettersson.
Mikheyev signed a four-year deal with the Canucks this offseason after spending three seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Bruce Boudreau didn’t have an update on Mikheyev post game, but said he would know more on Monday.
