The Vancouver Canucks fell to 2-4 over their last six games with a loss to the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night. The Canucks will try to bounce back with a win against the Senators on Saturday night at home.

Vancouver is a -140 home favorite (wager $140 to win $100) on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Senators (+120) have cashed in as underdogs of +130, +180, and +180 in their last three games.

Thatcher Demko returned to the crease on Thursday night and allowed two goals on his first nine shots before settling in and stopping the last 15 shots that he faced. Unfortunately, the damage was already done as the Canucks couldn’t get any of the 31 shots they took by Matt Murray in a 3-0 loss to the Senators.

The Montreal Canadiens’ loss to the Calgary Flames on Friday made that loss sting even more as the Canucks could have closed the gap on a playoff spot to eight points with a win. Alexander Edler is expected to return on Saturday after serving his two-game suspension.

The Canucks are now 5-3-1 in nine games as a betting favorite in 2021 according to the OddsShark NHL Database.

The Senators snapped out of their five-game losing streak against the Canucks thanks in large part to another outstanding effort from Murray. Murray now owns a fantastic 1.26 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage across four starts in April and finally appears to be settling in as Ottawa’s goaltender of the future. Ottawa is 4-1 over its last five games and has outscored its opponents 17 to seven over that stretch.

Saturday night’s total is set at six goals at betting sites. The UNDER is 10-3-1 in Vancouver’s last 14 games.

Vancouver seemed to have some momentum going after back-to-back upset wins over the Maple Leafs, but a regulation loss to the Senators stopped that momentum in its tracks. It will be interesting to see how the Canucks respond to this setback; they’ve had four separate losing streaks of three or more games this season and will need to end that trend of stringing losses together if they hope to end this season on a high note.
