Utica Comets Pre-Game
Game #9
Providence Bruins at Utica Comets
Friday, November 1st, 2019
7:00 pm Eastern/4:00 pm Pacific

October… ah, what a great month that was. The Utica Comets went 8/0 for the month and remain the only unbeaten team in the AHL. All of that, however, is in the rearview mirror. The calendar has been flipped to a new month and the focus begins anew.
The Comets will welcome the 6-3-0-2 Providence Bruins, (Boston affiliate) to town for game number nine of the season. The Bruins last played to a 4-3 win over Rochester, while the Comets are coming off of their 3-1 win over Binghamton on Wednesday.
The Bruins have been better on the road than they’ve been at home as they show a road record of 5-1-0-1, while the Comets are 5-0-0-0 at home this season. The Bruins seem to draw a few penalties as they have gone 9/48 with the man advantage for a success rate of 18.8%. Their penalty kill has given up 10 goals while down a man 50 times this season for an 80.0% success rate. It seems they take their share of penalties as well.
The Comets, for their part, have scored just 4 goals on 25 power-play opportunities to give themselves a success rate of 16.0%. Their penalty kill, however, has been quite good while killing off 30 of 32 power plays that they’ve given up for a success rate of 93.8%.
Peter Cehlarik leads all Providence scorers with six goals and four assists to give himself 10 points in seven games, while Alex Petrovic sits second with one goal and nine assists, giving him 10 points in 11 games this season. Paul Carey rounds out the Bruins’ top three with six goals and three assists to give himself nine points in 11 games.
Jack Studnicka is the rookie leader in Providence with two goals and five helpers, giving him seven points in 11 games. Brogan Rafferty and Olli Juolevi each have five points through eight games to lead the rookie group in Utica.
Reid Boucher sits atop all scorers in Utica with 10 goals and three assists to give himself 13 points in eight games, while Sven Baertschi sits second with two goals and eight assists, giving him 10 points in seven games. Nikolay Goldobin rounds out Utica’s top three with one goal and nine assists in seven games.
The Comets have outscored… well, everyone this year by a count of 39-14, while the Bruins have scored 36 times and have given up 30.
If Zane McIntyre gets the start, it will be his first against his former team.
This will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams, but they squared off twice last season. Utica won the first game by a 5-2 score, while the Bruins took round two by a count of 3-1.
