Chris Higgins endured quite the season. The grizzled veteran, who was once a cornerstone in the Canucks top six, was relegated to the lower ranks of the lineup, before being sent to the Utica Comets of the AHL over the course of what was surely a trying a season.
That wasn’t the end for Higgins, though, who return to the Canucks lineup down the stretch playing a bit of good old-fashioned inspired, pissed off hockey. It was a crazy year for Higgins, and if you don’t believe me, let’s meet on the other end of the jump and I’ll show you just why.

Best Moment

The Canucks made a push via social media to trade him. I’m not lying, that was a real thing that happened. Shockingly, it didn’t work. And you wonder why Higgins grew tired of being a Canuck as the season went on.
I guess the other GM’s don’t follow the Canucks on Instagram.

Crunching Numbers

“Yikes” is the best way to describe Higgins’ stat line this year, as he was a burden on the ice and didn’t provide much scoring help. A far cry from the Higgins years of the past.
Corsi
Higgins’ cause wasn’t furthered by his possession play this season, as he was a liability by raw and relative numbers alike. A traditionally strong possession player, that just wasn’t the case for Higgins this season.
Scoring Chances
The more stats I provide the worse it looks for Higgins. His scoring chance stats don’t help the cause either.

Conclusion

Higgins career is much closer to the finish than the start, or maybe even it’s height. Perhaps a change of scenery could rejuvenate his career, though. It wouldn’t be the first time it’s happened for an over the hill player. A buy-out is the likely next step, then time will tell where his career goes. Likely he’s on to bigger and better things. He surely deserves as much.
