WWYDW: What about Jordan Subban?

Mar 16, 2016, 13:00 EDTUpdated:
The Canucks have been making waves on the transaction wire, building a paper-trail highway between Utica and Vancouver. First, they called up Brendan Gaunce, then sent him down, then called him up. Somewhere in the middle, they recalled Alexandre Grenier. Oh, Andrey Pedan is on his way, too.
It seems like everyone is getting their shot. Everyone except for Canucks 2013 third-round selection, defenceman Jordan Subban, that is. Now that Hunter Shinkaruk is a Flame and Gaunce and Grenier are Canucks, Subban is the Comets leading scorer with 32-points in 52-games – an impressive mark for a first-year professional.
Barring injuries, is Subban worth getting a good look at in the NHL? If even for a game or two? And, if not, do you have anyone from Utica ahead of him? If so, why?
Last week I asked: Would you do away with the town hall meetings? Would you cut down on the amount? Let your voice be heard.
Francesco Aquillini:
These events are not for poor hipsters that watch the hockey games in their mother’s basements.
Customers have questions. My lieutenants will answer them.
People can cheer, vent, claim to be apathetic or all of the above.
All of you will be lining my pockets in September as per usual.
And you know it.
TrueBlue:
I crave information so I find the town hall events entertaining, but they certainly don’t seem to be doing mgmt any favours. There are some things they have to answer to, and then there are some things better left unsaid. At the town halls, they don’t really get that luxury.
I’d say hold a couple of these events, one at the beginning of the season and another “state of the union” type forum at the end of the year. In the middle, that’s where you should be busy doing your job.
Edaceel:
Having such a volatile marketplace, such that Vancouver is, the need for these has almost become a necessity. We get upset if no one answers every move they make, whether significant or insignificant.
The mgmt is at least showing “kahunas” & having discussions with the people who really pay the bills, us the fans.
Too have as many as they have now may be a little over the top, but at least it allows for more of the base to attend these meetings. As if they only held that 1 last week you know there was going to be an uproar from some over the fact that they were unable too attend due to such “short notice”.
I would hope that these forums will be reduced to 1 per season with everyone now aware that this team is in a rebuild/retooling/restructuring mode.
JuiceBox:
It’s no secret that this fan base is fickle and a lot of the complaints we see and hear are something along the lines of “We don’t know the plan, so how can we support these transactions.” or “These transactions don’t make any sense, what is the plan?”
I understand what they are trying to achieve by keeping the season ticket holders in the loop while the team goes through this transition but I don’t think it makes good business sense or good hockey sense to have complete full disclosure and every last move and why it is made is explained in detail.
I think that one season-ticket holder & media open hall at the beginning of each season along with three DETAILED “state of the union” letters written to the season ticket holders and fan base at the beginning, middle, and end of each season that outline the goals of the organization, what they intend to do moving forward, what they did over the course of the year, and explaining a few of the major player or business transactions/decisions that were made is more than enough. If they supplement that with the many post game press conferences and TV/Radio sit-downs throughout the year it is more than enough communication.
Frey:
“Wow. This site went from analytics destination to full 1040 in a big hurry, didn’t it?”
Have to totally agree with Big D, little d. Over the past year, the quality of articles on this site has really degraded. I liked CA because it used to avoid the fanboy angst that characterizes other blogs. I’m disliking the constant irrational negativity; leave that to the comments. Too bad Drance is gone.
Whackanuck:
The Town Halls do appear a tad too frequent but I’d rather hear the comments directly (at least via YouTube) than have it go to the piranha media and have them spin it for me.
One note: The “overpayment for Sbisa, Dorsett and Sutter has got to be the biggest red herring out there. Miller? Well, the alternative was Hiller, this year’s human sieve. Yes, those contracts hurt a bit but the biggest uptick is going to be with the expiry of the UFA contracts over the next three years. Most of those contracts appear to be a year too long and come burdened with no move clauses.
