Welcome back to WWYDW, the only hockey column on the internet with a schedule built right into the title.
Speaking of schedules, the NHL schedule has already begun…whatever it is schedules do after they become active. The 2025-26 NHL season has commenced, and by the time you are reading these words, you will have already seen the bulk of Vancouver Canucks Training Camp 2025 and a decent amount of preseason action, too.
We hope that’s enough to lay some official predictions on the line.
There are just specific questions we have to address each and every year, and this is definitely one of them. Right now, before the puck has officially dropped on the regular season, is kind of our last chance to make a pure prediction, free of any undue influence from the early-going.
Two years ago, the Canucks finished with 109 points and won the Pacific Division. Last year, they finished with 90 points and missed the playoffs. We’d like to suggest that their results for the 2025-26 season will end up somewhere in between – but don’t let that limit your prognosticating.
As you predict, feel free to include as much detail as you’d like. A final place in the standings is a must, but you can also predict the Canucks’ final point total, their goal differential, and maybe even their playoff finish, if you’re so bold.
In any case, this week, we’re asking:
Where do you predict the Canucks will finish in the 2025-26 standings?
Let it be known in the comment section.
Which two wingers will end up on Elias Pettersson’s wings coming out of Canucks Camp 2025?
You answered below!
RDster:
I’ll take the conservative option and say Pettersson’s wingers on the October 9, 2025 season opener will be Evander Kane and Brock Boeser.
JCanuck:
I would like to see Kane in the ring, but believe he will end up with Chytil.
DeBrusk and Brock.
DBP line.
Hawks TB:
Whoever plays with EP40 it will be a very weak number 1 line. They lack top-end forwards. I think it will likely be DeBrusk and Boeser which makes me cringe.
Magic Head:
Kane and Sherwood. They’ll be able to make a lot of space for him and do all the dirty work on the boards and distract the goalie.
bruce donice:
Most likely going to see DeBrusk and Brock on EP40’s wings. But if Lekkerimäki can show he belongs in the top-six and can pop a few pucks in the net, I could see the line that was put together for last years camp of DeBrusk/EP40/Lekkerimäki. Or if Kravtsov comes in like gangbusters, a line of Kravtsov/EP40/Brock could be interesting. But I would think if Kravtsov comes in and impresses the coaching staff he would be paired with Chytil.
Tyson:
Lekkerimäki and Boeser, if I’m calling the shots.
Kootenaydude:
As long as it isn’t Höglander, I’ll be happy.
Jibsys:
Krastsov, EP40, Kane.
To me Kane is a no-brainer. The Canucks have long needed a big tough capable winger to support their most skilled forwards and now they have that in Kane.
Maybe I’m being a bit silly on Kravtsov, but he stands to be either the next Kuzmenko or the next Sprong or somewhere in between.
Kravtsov is s highly skilled player with a great draft pedigree and good KHL resume. I have a feeling that he could click with Pettersson.
ThreePetes:
Kane for sure. I think the extra space that Pettersson will get will make the chemistry that much better. Rotate in the best winger at the time for the other side.

I do like EP40 with Kane and Boeser, but I can also see a world where O’Connor gets a look on this line.
Fast and physical O’Connor could be a Burrows type where, sure, he may not have the ideal top line pedigree, but does enough things right to earn some time there.
Naslund:
I can see Kane getting a long look with Boeser and Pettersson. Kane is on a contract year and if he does not get hurt, he is the type of player that could add that Miller-like style of play to that line. Would be nice if Höglander could have that breakout year and hold down a top-six place. My Burrows-type surprise would be Kravtsov.
I think the biggest dark horse is the big Swede , Alriksson. He could bring something special to the fourth line. Long shot, but he seems like the type of player that just plays his game no matter the level.
Richard Hickey:
Pettersson lines up with Boeser and Kane on opening night. DeBrusk or Hogs replaces Kane if things don’t work.
Sheriff Kane setting the tone. Hopefully, the others fall in line.
BeerCan Boyd:
EP with Kane and Karlsson.
Obann:
Probably DeBrusk and Kane. If I could choose, it would be Höglander and Alriksson.
Stafford:
Kane-Pettersson-Boeser
DeBrusk-Chytil-Garland
Höglander-Räty-Sherwood
O’Connor-Blueger-Karlsson/Kravtsov (toss-up for these two)
Kane-Pettersson-Boeser is the new ‘Lotto Line’ with the extra! 6-40-9(1)
As for the rest of the forwards, I think Lekkerimäki headlines the group sent to the AHL along with many other depth forwards; this will be another strong AHL team for Malhotra.
This management team is solid and will have it well mapped out already, barring a surprise (who I believe is Kravtsov).
Craig Gowan:
Kane and Boeser will start with Petey, I think.
Reubenkincade:
I would guess one of the two legit top-six wingers the team has, plus some AHL-calibre call-up like Höglander or Karlsson.
TeeJay:
I think Kane getting reps with EP40 is a guarantee because he tends to give the other guys he plays with space, and with BB adding some playmaking abilities over the last couple of season, he’d likely be the first guy on the RW with them.
Kane – EP – BB
DeBrusk – Chytil – Garland
Höglander – Raty – Sherwood
DOC – Blueger – Sasson/Kravtsov
