The Vancouver Canucks announced on Friday afternoon that the club has signed defenceman Victor Mancini to a two-year extension that carries a $1 million average annual value.
According to PuckPedia, Mancini’s extension is a one-way deal.
Mancini, 23, was acquired by the New York Rangers, along with Filip Chytil and a 2025 first-round pick (traded, Jack Nesbitt) in the JT Miller trade in January of 2025.
The 6’3″ right-shot defenceman was selected in the fifth round (159th overall) by the Rangers in the 2022 NHL Draft. He spent his draft-plus-one and plus-two seasons with the University of Nebraska-Omaha, where he collected 4 goals and 14 assists for 18 points in 72 NCHC games. At the conclusion of his final season in the NCHC, Mancini joined the Rangers’ AHL Affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, where he collected three assists in seven regular season games, and added another three helpers in 10 AHL playoff games.
The Hancock, Michigan native made the Rangers out of camp to start the 2024-25 season, where he tallied one goal and four assists for five points in 15 games. After the trade, Mancini joined the Canucks and played 16 games, scoring one goal and two assists for three points with a minus-six rating.
Following the NHL regular season, Mancini joined the Abbotsford Canucks for the playoffs. He played a pivotal role on Abbotsford’s blueline, playing heavy minutes in all situations, adding three goals and five assists for eight points in 24 games en route to their Calder Cup Championship.
This season in Vancouver, Mancini is still searching for his first point of the season, but he logged his first NHL fight in October against a tough customer in Brandon Duhaime of the Washington Capitals – 48% of HockeyFights.com voters sided with Mancini. Since the PO Joseph injury, Mancini has been playing bottom-pairing minutes paired with Zeev Buium.
Here is what General Manager Patrik Allvin said about the Mancini extension in the press release:
“Victor has fit in nicely with our organization,” said Allvin. “He was a key part of our Calder Cup winning team last year in Abbotsford, and this season he has continued to develop his skill set with the help of our group. Depth on the backend is very important for our team moving forward and we are happy to have Victor be a part of the blue-line mix.”
