The Vancouver Canucks have selected right-winger Gabriel Chiarot with the 175th overall pick in the sixth round and centreman Matthew Lansing with the 207th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Chiarot is a 5’11” right-winger out of the Brampton Steelheads of the OHL. The 18-year-old scored 21 goals, adding 14 assists for 35 points this past season. The 191 lb Ontario native added one goal in six playoff games through their first-round exit to the Oshawa Generals.
If the Chiarot name sounds familiar to you, that’s because Gabriel is a cousin of long-time NHL veteran defenceman Ben Chiarot.
Lansing is a centreman out of the Fargo Force of the USHL. Weighing in at 181 lbs, Lansing has some growing the do, but has the 6’1″ frame to do so. The left-shot forward played for three separate teams this season. He started in the USHL with the Waterloo Blackhawks, where he scored eight goals and 17 points in 40 games. Lansing then played for the USNTDP, where he had just one assist through his 13 games, before finishing the season with the Fargo Force. In 14 games with his second USHL team of the season, Lansing scored four goals and 10 points in 14 games, and added one goal in two postseason games.
The New York native represented his country at the U18 World Junior Championships. He appeared in seven games but was held pointless.
Here is how the Elite Prospects Draft Guide described the two new Canucks, Gabriel Chiarot and player.
Chiarot:
“A crafty off-puck mover with a quick release – and a particularly nasty backhand – Chiarot is difficult to stop on the doorstep, ducking in and out of coverage, and outworking defenders to pucks.”
Lansing:
“A hard-working forechecker with some power forward elements, Lansing has the profile of a strong defensive forward. He drives the net while fending off back pressure, sets up chances from the cycle, and gets to the net. A hard-working defensive player, he’s always getting above the puck and angling out attacks.”
Director of Scouting Todd Harvey will speak shortly after the draft concludes to discuss all of the Canucks’ Day 2 selections. To hear what Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin had to say after they drafted Braeden Cootes on Day 1, click here!
