Another Vancouver Canuck is heading to the World Championships to represent his country.
Canucks forward Max Sasson was named to Team USA’s IIHF World Championships roster.
Sasson, 25, signed with the Canucks as an undrafted college free agent, out of Western Michigan University, after scoring 15 goals and 27 assists for 42 points in 38 games in the 2022-23 season. The speedster immediately joined the Abbotsford Canucks, where he scored one goal and two points in seven games.
The Birmingham, Michigan native had a successful first full season in the American League, scoring 18 goals and 24 assists for 42 points in 56 games. The following season, Sasson emerged as Abbotsford’s top centre and produced like it. His 13 goals and 32 points in 41 games were enough to earn him 29 games in the NHL, where he scored three goals and four assists for seven points.
He would then return to Abbotsford for their playoff run, where Sasson’s five goals and nine assists for 14 points in 24 games played a part in their Calder Cup Championship. His efforts earned himself a one-year, one-way NHL contract worth an average annual value of $775,000.
Despite starting the 2025-26 season in the American League, scoring two goals in two games, Sasson would play the remainder of the year with the Vancouver Canucks. In his first NHL season, Sasson scored 13 goals and six assists for 19 points in 66 games. His speed and off-the-rush scoring ability helped Sasson score a two-year, $1 million AAV contract starting next season.
