The Vancouver Canucks have signed five players to one-year AHL contracts. Abbotsford Canucks General Manager Richard Seeley made the announcement via press release late Wednesday morning.
Per the Canucks’ release: “…the club has signed forwards Quinn Emerson and Ryan St. Louis, defencemen Tim Rego and Gavin White, and goaltender Mitchell Weeks to one-year AHL contracts ahead of the 2026-27 season.”
Now, a quick word on each:
Ryan St. Louis (LW, 5’10”, 170 lbs)
Yes, he is related to the St. Louis you’re thinking of. The 23-year-old undrafted college winger is indeed the son of Hockey Hall of Famer and Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis. Bloodlines aside, the younger St. Louis brings some intriguing pedigree of his own. A graduate of the USNTDP program, he split his NCAA career between Northeastern and Brown University, wrapping up with 33 goals and 37 assists (70 points) in 121 games. He’s a smart, agile winger who will look to translate his collegiate playmaking into the pro ranks with Abbotsford.
Quinn Emerson (RW, 5’11”, 185 lbs)
Like St. Louis, 25-year-old right winger Quinn Emerson joins the Canucks as an undrafted college free agent. Emerson is coming off a highly productive senior year with Bowling Green State University, in which he put up ten goals and 23 assists through 36 games en route to earning himself a Hobey Baker Award nomination. Emerson has some local ties, having spent some time in the BCHL with the Wenatchee Wild in 2019-20 and 2021-22.
Tim Rego (LD, 6’0″, 187 lbs)
Rego, a 25-year-old left shot defenceman out of Mansfield Massachusetts, has spent most of his time through the first two years of his pro career in the ECHL. To this point, he’s played 35 ECHL games and 15 AHL games, with 12 ECHL points and 5 AHL points. A fun little tidbit about Rego from the Canucks’ press release: He made his AHL debut against Abbotsford on October 24th, 2025. That game — which was Abbotsford’s 2025-26 home opener — featured a banner-raising ceremony to commemorate the 2024-25 Calder Cup Championship victory, though the Reign spoiled the celebrations with a 5-2 win. Seeing a banner raising ceremony and getting the win in your AHL debut? That’s certainly a night at Abbotsford Centre (now Rogers Forum) that Rego will never forget.
Gavin White (RD, 6’0”, 196 lbs)
Even though he’s just 23 years old, Gavin White is already entering his fourth pro season. That’s because, unlike everyone else on this list to this point, he’s the only player who was drafted by an NHL club. The Dallas Stars selected White in the fourth round with the 115th pick of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. White was part of a trade last season, as the Stars and Calgary Flames swapped AHL defencemen, with Calgary sending Jeremie Poirier to the Stars on February 2nd. White hasn’t made his NHL debut yet, and hasn’t exactly lit the AHL on fire to this point. Last season, the Brookville, Ontario native put up three goals and nine assists through 51 games split between AHL Texas and AHL Calgary.
Mitchell Weeks (Goaltender, 6’3″, 190 lbs)
Finally, the goaltender! The Canucks also signed Mitchell Weeks, a 25-year-old netminder who spent the last four seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks organization after going undrafted. Weeks has been a reliable workhorse between the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs (51 total games) and ECHL’s Indy Fuel (99 total games) over the past four seasons. He provides the Canucks with added goaltending depth and a netminder who can comfortably bounce up and down from the ECHL and AHL as needed.
