The Vancouver Canucks have re-signed Tyler Motte to a two-year contract extension worth a total of $2.45-million.
The contract, which will pay Motte an AAV of $1.225-million, is a raise off the $975,000 contract he is coming off.
Motte, a fourth-round draft pick by Chicago in 2013. is in his third season with the Vancouver Canucks. He was acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets in a Feb. 2018 deal that also saw Jussi Jokinen arrive in Vancouver in exchange for Thomas Vanek.
Since then, Motte has been decent bottom-six player for the Canucks scoring 15 goals and 26 points in 123 games. He’s been rock solid on the penalty kill providing value at 11 percent above league average, according to hockeyviz.com, but has struggled at even-strength as a third-liner.
Motte had a breakout performance in the playoffs for Vancouver this year as he scored four goals and five points in 17 playoff games. He was dynamic in the series against St. Louis burying a beautiful short-handed goal in game five.
