Team Canada has officially announced their World Junior training camp roster on Monday morning.
The list includes a total of 15 forwards, nine defenders and three goaltenders. On that list of forwards is Vancouver Canucks’ 2025 first-round pick, Braeden Cootes.
“This group represents the very best of Canadian junior hockey — skill, speed, sense, character, and a strong commitment to team success and the pride in representing Canada at this prestigious world championship,” said General Manager Alan Millar in the team press release. “Our staff has worked tirelessly to identify a roster that embodies the identity we want Canada to play, and we’re confident these athletes are ready for the challenge ahead. This process and team build came with many difficult decisions. We are confident in this group as we begin our preparations for Minneapolis on December 12.”
The team has announced that it will cut one player from each position for its final roster decision. However, Canada will keep its roster open until December 22, should additional players, such as Ben Kindel (Pittsburgh Penguins), Berkley Catton (Seattle Kraken) or Sam Dickinson (San Jose Sharks), be loaned to the team.
Cootes, 18, has had a tremendous start to his draft-plus-one campaign. Just months after hearing his name called at the 2025 entry draft, he made the opening night roster for the Vancouver Canucks. After a three-game stint, Coote would be loaned back to captain the Seattle Thunderbirds. Since returning, the captain is firing well over a point-per-game pace with 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists) through 17 games.
A Sherwood Park, Alberta native, he is a familiar face on the Canadian International stage. He wore the captain’s “C” for Canada at the U18 World Junior Championships in spring 2025. There, he led Canada in scoring with 12 points (six goals, six assists) on a team that included fellow World Junior invites Brady Martin and Cole Reschny en route to a Gold Medal finish.
Canada will host its training camp from December 13–22 in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The camp will feature a three-game exhibition slate, including two games versus Team Sweden on December 17 and 20, followed by a final tune-up game against Team Denmark on December 23.
Cootes joins a list of three Vancouver Canucks prospects to be announced to World Junior training camps. Last week, both Wilson Björck (Sweden) and Basile Sansonnens (Switzerland) were announced to their respective international camps and will compete for final roster spots.
