The Vancouver Canucks have named Stan Smyl vice-president of hockey operations.
The club also announced the Daniel and Henrik Sedin will continue in their role as special advisors to the general manager, and that Ryan Johnson will continue in his role as senior director of player development and general manager for the Abbotsford Canucks.
Smyl, 62, is nothing short of a Canucks legend having served in roles as a player, coach and executive since 1978. Most recently, he stepped up to help the team as an interim general manager as the team looks for someone to step into the role full-time.
“Stan has been a foundational piece of this team for decades, and we are pleased that he will be taking on this role,” said President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford. “In addition, Henrik, Daniel, and Ryan are key parts of our leadership team. We still have some additional roles to fill, but confirming these positions today is a big step for us.”
