The Vancouver Canucks have made three and six-year deals for Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes, respectively, official.
Pettersson will earn an AAV of $7.35-million, while Hughes will earn $7.85-million and neither deal carries trade protection.
Here’s the breakdown of the contracts, according to PuckPedia.
Pettersson
Year 1 – $3-million salary, $1-million signing bonus
Year 2 – $7.8-million salary
Year 3 – $10.25-million
Year 2 – $7.8-million salary
Year 3 – $10.25-million
Upon expiration of the deal, Pettersson will be an RFA with arbitration rights one year away from unrestricted free agency. His qualifying offer will be $8.82-million.
After this deal, Pettersson will be 1 year from UFA. He can either accept his $8.82M 1-year Qualifying Offer, or file for arbitration & accept a 1-year award.
With that much leverage going into his final year, it's almost like reaching UFA eligibility 1 year early.
