The Vancouver Canucks did not hold a morning skate ahead of their return to Rogers Arena after a four-game road trip, leaving questions about the lineup ahead of tonight’s contest against the Utah Mammoth.
Head Coach Adam Foote met with the media before the game and shared some lineup notes. Nikita Tolopilo will get the start in goal tonight. Victor Mancini replaces Elias Pettersson (D) on the backend. Evander Kane, who sat out the last two games against the Colorado Avalanche and Minnesota Wild after reaching his 1,000th game on Tuesday against the Vegas Golden Knights, will draw back into the lineup for Curtis Douglas. Tonight, the Canucks will honour the Vancouver native’s accomplishment prior to puck drop.
Tolopilo will be making just his third start in the last 10 games. After sitting out six straight following a 5-2 loss to the Seattle Kraken, Tolopilo returned to the net against the Calgary Flames two weeks later. However, after allowing four goals on 11 shots, the Belarusian netminder was yanked not even 25 minutes into his return. This will be Tolopilo’s second consecutive start after getting the nod on Thursday against Quinn Hughes and the Minnesota Wild. He allowed four goals on 38 shots in a 5-2 loss.
E. Pettersson (D) comes out of the lineup off a rough game against the Wild in which he played just 11:28 minutes of ice time, a minus-two rating and finished with the lowest Corsi For Percentage (CF%) on the team, being out-attempted 5-12 (29.4%) at 5v5. Filling in for him will be Victor Mancini, who sat out the last two games against the Avalanche and Wild.
Upfront, Douglas exits the lineup after appearing in four straight contests, logging six shots on goal, a minus-one rating and his first fight as a Canuck against Adam Klapka. With no other changes to the forward group, Nils Höglander will sit for the second straight game. This marks the fifth healthy scratch and the second time he has been sat out for multiple games since the beginning of March.
