On Monday morning, fans were hit with a handful of Vancouver Canucks injury updates.
The Athletic’s Thomas Drance first shared the line combinations at Monday’s morning skate at the Bell Centre in Montreal. Those line rushes did not include Kiefer Sherwood. Shortly after, Head Coach Adam Foote provided an update, sharing that Sherwood is injured. He is considered day-to-day but could miss up to a week.
Sherwood, 30, is having a career season with 17 goals and six assists for 23 points through 44 games. He is averaging the most ice time of his career (17:32) per game this season, kills penalties, produces on the power play and is among the league leaders in the entire NHL in hits.
The Columbus, Ohio, native is in the final year of his $1.5 million AAV contract and is drawing serious trade buzz on the market as the Canucks enter the rebuilding phase.
Next came an update on newly acquired centreman Marco Rossi. The Austrian centre was injured on December 30 against the Philadelphia Flyers. Foote shared that Rossi would be out for at least a week, but the new timeline is 2-3 weeks before returning to the lineup, according to the Canucks coach.
Sounds like Marco Rossi is still 2-3 weeks away from returning to the lineup, according to Adam Foote. #Canucks
Rossi, 24, was one of the four assets the Canucks acquired in the Quinn Hughes trade. When acquired, he was still recovering from an injury. He has played eight games in a Canucks sweater, registering one goal and two points with a minus-five rating in 18:42 minutes of average ice time. As a centre, he has a respectable 50.8% faceoff winning percentage since joining Vancouver.
Lastly, a Thatcher Demko update. Foote shared that Demko is still being evaluated for the injury he suffered on Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Adam Foote also noted that while #Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko is still being evaluated and the team is hopeful for good news, his injury absence could also be an extended one.
Demko, 30, did not lead his teammates out for the second period against the Leafs after allowing three goals on six shots against. This season, the San Diego, California, native has an 8-10-1 record, a 2.90 goals against average, a .897 save percentage, and one shutout.
Donnie & Dhali’s Rick Dhaliwal shared on Sunday afternoon that he’s heard Demko has returned to Vancouver.
Sources say he is on his way back to Vancouver to get checked out.
Abbotsford Canucks goaltender Nikita Tolopilo has been summoned and was on the ice today at the Bell Centre, and is expected to get the start tonight against the Montreal Canadiens.
