The Vancouver Canucks have named Derek Clancey an assistant general manager.

Clancey, 52, has spent this year with the Calgary Flames as a pro scout.

He began his NHL career in 2007 with the Penguins, where he spent three years as a pro scout. From there, he worked from 2010-2019 as the director of professional scouting and was named director of player personnel in 2019, a role he held for two seasons.

“We are building a front office with people with a variety of backgrounds,” said President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford. “Derek has excellent experience and has played an important role on three Stanley Cup winning teams. He will be a key member of our leadership team as we create a progressive, collaborative hockey operations group that can support our team and players at all levels.”

Earlier today, Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli reported that Clancey could be one of three potential assistant general managers in Vancouver, ” all with different roles, voices and hockey backgrounds. That trio would report to the yet-to-be hired GM, and all four will work under the tutelage of Rutherford, who will guide in addition to mentor.”
