The Vancouver Canucks (2-2) play their first set of back-to-back games of the season as they take on the Chicago Blackhawks (2-2-1) at the United Center. Puck drop is set for 5:30 pm PT.
The Canucks will be looking for a second straight victory after rallying to defeat Dallas 5-3 last night.

What we know

With an early morning arrival in the Windy City, the Canucks will not hold a morning skate. As such, it will be much closer to game time before Adam Foote reveals any lineup changes.
With games on consecutive nights, the Canucks are likely to turn to Kevin Lankinen in goal. He suffered a 5-2 loss to St. Louis on Monday in his first start of the season. Lankinen is 3-0 lifetime against his former team. Beyond the netminding, the Canucks have options if they choose to tinker with a lineup that produced a solid win last night.
P-O Joseph could make his season debut on defence while Jonathan Lekkerimäki was a healthy scratch last night in Dallas and could draw back in tonight. Teddy Blueger is close to being an option, although he may not yet be medically cleared after skating in a non-contact jersey at practice on Tuesday.
The question is, does anyone deserve to come out of uniform after last night’s victory? Five different Canucks scored, and nine different skaters produced points. Quinn Hughes and Conor Garland each scored their first goals of the season and added an assist. Max Sasson, Brock Boeser and Filip Chytil had the other goals. For Boeser and Chytil, that’s three goals apiece through four games.
The Canucks scored their first two power play goals of the season in the victory over the Stars. The team is now two for 10 (20%) with the man advantage.

The Opponent

The Blackhawks have won back-to-back games after starting the season with three straight one-goal losses. On Wednesday, they blitzed the St. Louis Blues 8-3. Lukas Reichel led the way with a pair of goals and an assist, while Connor Bedard had three helpers. It was the first multi-goal game of Reichel’s career. Arvid Soderblom made 23 saves for his first victory of the season.
Bedard, Frank Nazar and Teuvo Teravainen share the team lead with six points apiece in the early stages of the schedule. Former Canuck Ilya Mikheyev leads the Hawks with three goals, including the opener on Wednesday night. Mikheyev has 23 goals in 85 games with Chicago after scoring 24 goals in 124 games in Vancouver.
In four career games against his hometown team, North Vancouver’s Bedard has yet to score a goal and has two assists against the Canucks.
Spencer Knight will get the start in goal tonight. Despite a 1-2 record, he has a 2.35 GAA and a .920% save percentage, stopping 80 of the 87 shots he’s faced. He was a winner against Utah in his last start last Monday.
Jeff Blashill’s team is the third youngest in the NHL, averaging 26.7 years old. The Hawks have 11 players on their roster born in 2000 or later.
Hawks captain Nick Foligno has taken a personal leave to be with family after his daughter required follow-up surgery related to her congenital heart condition.

News and notes

The Canucks have won 10 straight meetings with the Blackhawks. That is a franchise record against any single opponent. Last season, the Canucks swept the Hawks in their three-game season series. The Canucks scored six goals on six occasions last season – the first two times were against Chicago. Elias Pettersson’s 15th and final goal of last season came against the Blackhawks on March 15th.
The referees for tonight’s matchup are Kelly Sutherland and Furman South.
