From kanucked: Not my first choice, but go in with an open mind and wish him the best
From Tim Noble: Foote provides a little continuity and has the respect of the players. I just hope they provide him with some good assistants to help with the offensive side of the game.
From Randy Hodge: The Canucks won’t have any problem with team defence with Foote at the helm. I was hoping that they would give Maholtra a shot. I suppose it is just as well if he spends a couple more seasons coaching in the AHL.
From RagnarokOrobros: I think this choice is about keeping continuity for Quinn Hughes. Foote would have worked with Hughes a lot, and so it is important to keep Hughes happy. Foote is going to need to hire an offensive assistant coach. Maybe Malhotra will get a promotion as assistant coach for that purpose.
From Craig Gowan: Positive: Foote was the best assistant coach I’ve ever seen on the Canucks. He brought defensive structure to the team. His D men have developed well under his tutelage, e.g. he turned Myers from a disaster into a sound, reliable top 4 D man. When Yeo left, he was given responsibility for the PK. He turned it into the 3rd best in the NHL and a massive improvement from years past. The Canucks wanted to keep Tocchet but he quit on the team, so they’ve hired Tocchet’s clone. He provides stability and familiarity. I think the players (especially the D men) will be pleased by the hire.
Negative: He has NO pro head coaching experience. There’s a significant risk he won’t be as good an HC as an assistant coach. We don’t know how good he is at coaching offence, the team’s current weakness. Lots of risk in this hiring.
We’ll have to see how it goes.
From CRobinson: I was hoping for Manny but I’m ok with Foote. He and Toc spent a lot of time together so I suspect he will coach in a similar way. I always believed the Canucks needed a good offensive/PP assistant coach under Tocchet, so hopefully they get one now with Foote at the helm. That combination could work out well.
From Jon0: Foote wasn’t my pick, but neither was Hughes as captain. Hoping to be proven wrong again.
From defenceman factory: Not excited about this hiring. Foote’s head coaching experience is almost non existent and was not successful.
Funny Hughes would say Foote coaches like he would want his kids coached. Foote coached his two sons with the rockets.
Regardless of his lack of experience Foote is a character guy. Not sure that character was passed on to his eldest.
Foote has a wealth of hockey experience. Wish him well. He needs help running the offence and PP. Suspect this is the end of Gonchar’s involvement.

From Adam Klaja: We already knew he had one Foote in the door!
From Clint August: Huggy liked Tocchet, but he said Foote was the best coach he ever had. So even if it’s a blatant pander to Hughes, I still like it.
From Neil Kelsey: Don’t know enough about him, but I do know the Vancouver defence has improved A LOT since he’s been there. I like that.
From Sean Wanless: It was either him or Malhotra…that’s the only way to make sure this system stays in place. Everyone complaining about 1 bad season as a coach, I don’t understand. It takes YEARS to develop a system that works based off players skillsets. That system has been in place for 2 years now, Foote will stay the course and add his own knowledge to it. To abandon that system is a complete waste of time. Congrats Footer.
From Aaron Stacey: The team has taken about a 5 yr step back after what transpired this year. How we go from 1 game away from the conference finals to the laughing stock of the league is perplexing. We signed the wrong guy long term. The team is thin in dept. Foote has a hard path ahead.
From David Pfeifle: It’s good actually. He’s seen the mess going on there so he probably knew what to focus on at the end of the season and he has all off season to come up with some ideas to make things better. At the end of the day the Canucks needed a coach and now that they have one they can focus on other important business.
From Cort Benson: Good to hear. My thoughts are that this was the best option to keeping Hughes happy and getting him an extension next summer prior to his final year of his contract. There will be a lot being the hiring of his assistants.

From stixkbtixk: Hopefully we can put the right foote forward this time
From bknarayan: I just want a coach who will help generate chances. It was such a pain going to some of these games live
From juicehurley: Damn good hire. Familiarity with the group will help the transition. Coach and most of the staff should hit the ground running heading into camp.
From michaeljcarl: Now we need someone who can run the powerplay competently and actually create offensive action. Sedins are right there!
From _dylan.phan: Manny was right there, we’re going to be in the same spot like we were this year but even worse
From brandonskibo: So our management took one good look at our coaching staff that couldn’t produce offence and hired the guy that was responsible for our defence. That sounds miserable tbh but I hope he proves me wrong
From donnatobysherneck: I think it is a mistake to not put Manny in the position. He would be new blood to the team while also having a great relationship and lots of history with the organization.
