It&#8217;s hard to argue against this choice when the Canucks&#8217; captain was the NHL&#8217;s leading scorer among defencemen and finished second on his team in that department behind only JT Miller. This win likely feels a little sweeter for him, knowing <a href="https://canucksarmy.com/news/norris-trophy-race-quinn-hughes-and-cale-makar-is-no-longer-close-canucks-conversation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">he beat out rival Cale Makar</a> for the award, even though the two were only separated by two points on the leaderboard.
This marks the first major individual award Hughes has won in his career so far. Before winning the Norris tonight, <a href="https://canucksarmy.com/news/vancouver-canucks-defenceman-quinn-hughes-loses-calder-trophy-to-cale-makar" target="_blank" rel="noopener">he was a finalist for the Calder Trophy in 2020,</a> but finished in second place behind Makar. As mentioned earlier, Hughes is fresh off his best season to date where he finished with 92 points (17 goals and 75 assists) in 82 games played.
