Shortly after their game against the San Jose Sharks on Friday, the Canucks sent down Di Giuseppe, Sasson, and Linus Karlsson back to Abbotsford, heading into the Christmas break. Only two of those three were recalled, as now defenceman Guillaume Brisebois gets his first call up of the season.
Brisebois, 27, is the second longest-tenured Canucks player, second only to Brock Boeser. A third round pick of the Canucks in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Brisebois has spent the majority of his career with the Canucks’ AHL affiliate, and has just 27 NHL games under his belt.
Brisebois battled concussion issues for most of last season, appearing in just eight AHL games. It’s been a long road back, but he’s been a steady fixture on the Abbotsford Canucks’ blueline this season, appearing in 23 games with the club.
Brisebois hasn’t played NHL games since the 22-23 season, when he appeared in 17 games with Vancouver, registering a goal and two assists in the process.
It will be interesting to see if the Canucks elect to get Brisebois into a game during this stint with the big club, as Brisebois hasn’t exactly set the world on fire with Abbotsford this season. That being said, Rick Tocchet got a chance to see Brisebois play during the tail end of the 22-23 season, and seemed to like certain elements of his game at the time.
Joining Brisebois are Di Giuseppe and Sasson, both of whom got their first looks of the season at the NHL level shortly before the holiday break. Those two come as little surprise, as both players have shown well in their brief NHL stints this season. Expect both players to slot into the lineup when the Canucks take on the Seattle Kraken on Saturday.
