Defenceman Travis Dermott will wear number 24 with the Canucks, the club announced Monday morning.
As a member of the Leafs, Dermott briefly wore number 3 before switching to 23.
Dermott was acquired yesterday by the Canucks in exchange for a third-round pick. Shortly before, the Canucks swapped out Travis Hamonic for a third-round pick in a deal with the Ottawa Senators.
ā€œWe talked about getting a little bit younger, Travis [Dermott] can play both the left and right side, and our pro scout and analytics department were excited about him,ā€ said Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin. ā€œI’ve had the opportunity to follow him for a couple of years here. I don’t make emotional decisions after wins and losses. This is part of the process of getting younger and also creating some cap space.ā€
ā€œI’m super excited to be a Canuck going forward. Excited to meet the boys and get everything started,ā€ Dermott told media yesterday.
