Cory HergottAfter loading up their forward ranks and attending to their goaltending depth, the Utica Comets have turned their attention to their defence. The team announced today that they have added Brandon Anselmini to the fold.
Anselmini is a 25-year-old, left-shot defender. The Guelph Ontario native stands five-foot-ten and weighs in at 183lbs. He spent four seasons with Ferris State in the NCAA where he played in 149 contests, picking up 13 goals and 43 helpers along the way to give him 56 points for his NCAA career.
Anselmini has bounced between the ECHL and AHL since the 2015/16 season, playing for a total of five teams during that span. He has played a total of 79 games in the ECHL split between the Orlando Solar Bears, Idaho Steelheads, and most recently, the Indy Fuel, accumulating seven goals and 28 assists, good for 35 points.
In the AHL, the defender has played 17 games, split between the Texas Stars and Rockford IceHogs. During those 17 games, he managed to pick up three assists.
Anselmini is another player that I expect to start with the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL. I really do like the fact that the organization has identified players that they think will work in their system and has gotten them under contract.
Training camp and pre-season will be very competitive from top to bottom this season, which should make for some interesting battles for roster spots. Everyone will have to show up with their best effort because clearly, there will be others ready to pounce on their roster spot.
Stay Tuned.
