First off, these guys not knowing they were mic’d up to start was hilarious. Second, Jack Hughes discovering they were mic’d up and proceeding to whisper — for all to hear, obviously — was excellent content.
Here’s a recap of Team Hughes’ draft:
In round one, Team Hughes refused to pull a Team Matthews, and didn’t go for one of their Canucks teammates. Buble, Hughes, and Pettersson were clearly here to win. With their first pick, they selected the NHL’s leading point-getter, Nikita Kucherov.
Round one: Nikita Kucherov
Round two: Thatcher Demko (Alex Georgiev was off the board at this point!)
Round three: Kyle Connor
Round four: Brady Tkachuk (Hughes asked his teammates if Brock Boeser would be mad on the hot mic and then proceeded not to select him)
Round five: Jesper Bratt (This pick brought another great hot mic moment, as Hughes said “we’re going to get five Canucks no matter what, then we will trade for Millsy after. Hughes was taking this draft seriously.)
Round six: Cam Talbot (First they wanted Brock Boeser which led to him sadly skating away after David Amber informed Team Hughes they needed to draft a goalie)

If Brock Boeser sadly skating away from his teammates while looking back at them doesn't get 1000 likes then the internet doesn't work properly. Gif of the night right here. pic.twitter.com/TPyZf3PWlE

Round seven: Brock Boeser, but not before this happened:
Round eight: JT Miller (Elias Lindholm was selected by Tate McRae before Team Hughes could make their pick, marking the first Canuck to go to another team. Hughes talking about trading for Miller earlier in the draft makes me think that the original plan was to take their new teammate Lindholm with this pick.) Hughes was sure to tell Miller he felt bad for making him wait so long.
