Senators forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau is suspended for one game

Mar 21, 2019, 18:14 EDT
The Canucks have the day off but there was some news today in relation to their contest from last night.
Senators forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau has been suspended for one game for a hit on Canucks defenceman Ashton Sautner
The incident occurred in the second period of the game last night and Pageau was given a two-minute penalty at the time, with the Canucks scoring on the man advantage. Vancouver went on to win the contest by a score of 7-4. Pageau has never been suspended before, so he isn’t subject to the repeat offender label that comes with stiffer penalties.
The Canucks defenceman was down for a little bit but did return to the game. Since there was no practice today, it’s unclear if he is sidelined but it unlikely that he will be.
Honestly, good to see the NHL proactive with plays like this. It was an unnecessary hit that as you can clearly see from the image in the tweet was right on the back of Sautner. Plays like that are not needed in today’s game and at the very least it creates a precedent for the future.
The Canucks take on the Calgary Flames on Saturday night and then the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday.
