The Vancouver Canucks have cleaned house, according to Irfaan Gaffar.
Roughly an hour after Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet announced that Bruce Boudreau will serve as the next head coach of the Canucks, Gaffar tweeted the following report:
Benning has served as Canucks GM for the past eight years, and the Canucks have found limited success ever since.
As Gaffar points out, Chris Gear could be taking over as interim GM for the time being, although that has yet to be confirmed.
At this time, the club has not confirmed any of the firings or the Boudreau hiring.
UPDATE 7:11 PM: Iain MacIntyre of Sportsnet has reported the group taking over for Benning will be a collaborative group consisting of Chris Gear, Ryan Johnson, Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin, and Stan Smyl.
UPDATE 10:30 PM: The Vancouver Canucks have officially announced the changes. You can read Francesco Aquilini’s statement by clicking here.
