The Canucks season has been over for almost two weeks but that doesn’t mean that some players year are done. It was reported by Rick Dhaliwal from Sportsnet 650 that Canucks netminder, Thatcher Demko, may join the USA for the World Championships:

Demko had represented the United States at the 2016 edition of the tournament as a third-string goaltender and did not dress in any games. He could very well play some games for the US this year, which is exciting news for Canucks fans.

The San Diego born netminder appeared in 9 games with the Canucks this season posting a 4-3-1 record with a 2.81 GAA and 0.913 save-percentage.

Defenceman Quinn Hughes has already committed to joining the USA for this event, so Canucks fans were already expecting to follow the USA but adding Demko gives them even more reason to do so. Hughes played for the United States last season in the 7th defenceman slot but is expected to have a bigger role for the Americans this time around.

Forward Brock Boeser won’t be going as he is without a contract for next season and thus the injury risk isn’t worth it. Add the fact that his summer training was cut short last season due to injury, there are valid reasons for Boeser to skip it this time around.
