The Vancouver Canucks will indeed have at least one player on a professional tryout contract (PTO) when training camp kicks off in Abbotsford tomorrow.
Former Edmonton Oilers forward Alex Chiasson has signed a PTO with the Canucks, according to Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie and Dhali – The Team.
The 30-year-old Montreal native appeared in 45 games with the Oilers last season, where he tallied nine goals and seven assists.
He has a legitimate shot to beat out players like Matthew Highmore, Zack MacEwen, Nic Petan, and Phil Di Giuseppe for the final forward spot, and with Tyler Motte still rehabbing after offseason surgery, the competition for bottom six spots is going to be intense at Canucks training camp.
At a press conference this morning, general manager Jim Benning didn’t close the door on signing multiple players to PTOs, so it will be interesting to see if the Canucks are done just yet.
