Plays of the Week: October 18th

Oct 18, 2015, 12:31 EDTUpdated:
Another week in the books! Unfortunately, the Canucks will not be going undefeated in regulation this year, but on the bright side, the single-season points record is still more than attainable! Well, as long as the 70’s Habs don’t get outdone by the 2016 Habs…
In any event, we look a week back at the week that was, both for the Canucks and Canucks Army. Read on to find out what you may have missed!
The Games
“That said, an argument could be made that Vancouver was waiting for overtime to really give it their darndest effort. They certainly looked their best in this frame – untimely penalty aside. The Sedins almost scored mere seconds after puck drop and Vancouver was pressing as the final whistle went to boot. When a penalty kill is sandwiched on each side by ten-bell scoring chances, the infraction seems a tad more palatable.” -JD Burke
“The Canucks battled penalties throughout the game, but even in the closing shift with Dorsett on the ice, it was Hansen that fed him the puck. Nonetheless, Virtanen impressed with three hits, a shot on goal and a smile that melted the hearts of fans around the world.” -Matthew Henderson
“With Sven Beartschi scratched, both Jared McCann and Jake Virtanen suited up for the Canucks. The last time two teenagers were in the line-up was 1988 and one of them was Trevor Linden. Baertschi’s stint in the press box also allowed Derek Dorsett to move up to the second line.” -Grainne Downey

Best Of CanucksArmy
“Given the path the Canucks have taken in recent years, it makes sense that the Aquilinis are considering selling the franchise. It could mean more years of being a fringe playoff team rather than rebuilding more aggressively. However, fresh owners would be a welcoming and invigorating change to the organization, especially one committed to winning like [Terry] Pegula.” -Tyler Horsfall
“Jake Virtanen might be ready to play in the NHL, but if the team isn’t ready for him, and he can still learn a thing or two without burning a year of his entry-level deal, why not take advantage of that? Get him back to the WHL, and do it as soon as possible. To me, that scenario is infinitely useful than using arguably your best (second best at worst) as “emergency Derek Dorsett”, which wastes his development time, your own evaluation time, and the time of his temporary teammates.” -Jeff Veillette
“Vancouver’s fresh crop of rookies have been both exciting and productive, but the team’s early success goes beyond that. Here’s a look at five players who are performing well above expectations so far in 2015-16.” -Carol Schram
“I don’t know much about business, what with still living in my mom’s basement and all, but I would think that the most successful companies focus on getting it right every time, even if it is just the little things. Their likely position would be that if you can’t do the little things right, how can you be expected to do the big things right?” -money puck
“We’re getting closer and closer to Yoda here, (“Do or do not; there is no try”), which would make this seem like wisdom. Of course, Baertschi has more points than Radim Vrbata so far this season, so it’s not really so much about doing as it is about a) being young, and b) having to be more visually pleasing. It’s particularly ironic that Baertschi would have gotten an assist on a freebie goal that bounced over Vrbata’s stick – no doubt one of the chances that Willie was talking about here.” -Jeremy Davis
