HOCKEY IS BACK! And with that, we’ve got the plays of the week; a quick little summary of what you may have missed on Canucks Army if you fell into a well, went on vacation, or got stuck listening to an annoying Oilers fan ramble about how excited they are for their golden lottery ticket to save them (if the latter, kudos for only being stuck in the conversation for a month).

The Games

“Overall, it was a very strong game for the Canucks. They had absolute control over the first two periods, and while I’m not a huge advocate of fighting for the sake of fighting, the team clearly wasn’t getting pushed around. Continuing to counter-attack rather than standing back was a good idea as well; letting the play come to you when you’re up by two with twenty minutes to go is a silly, old-school way of approaching late game leads, and the team clearly got rewarded for ignoring it.” -Jeff Veillette

“We’ve all been saying that Miller needs to have a bounce-back season, and once Jacob Markstrom went down, there was no margin for error; results had to come immediately. So far, they have – he stopped 35 of 38 tonight and looked tremendously confident in yet. Who knows if it lasts, but one thing is for sure, and that’s that this is the goalie that Jim Benning thought he was signing.” -Jeff Veillette

Best of CanucksArmy

“As for Kassian, it’s becoming increasingly clear that he’s a troubled young man. The talent is there and it’s evident, it always was for Canucks fans, but we’re at a point where two separate NHL teams have called him out publicly as needing to grow up, and now a third is publicly questioning his character. That has to be extremely concerning.” – Thomas Drance
“In the third period though, as the Sedins looked better, Sutter looked better – and by extension the line looked better as a whole. They got scored on early in the period, though it was on a rush play that the forwards were not a part of – rookie defenceman Ben Hutton got walked by Nugent-Hopkins and fed the puck to Pouliot, who was not at all being covered by Luca Sbisa. The goal itself was a backdoor play that looked frighteningly reminiscent of the goals that were scored on Miller in Game 6 of the Calgary series – but that’s a whole other thing.” – Jeremy Davis
“For whatever it’s worth, the current Over/Under point total for the Canucks is set at 85.5. Playing either side of that fence might not be for the faint of heart, though. The safest best might just be to let this one ride out and cross your fingers for the best.” – Dimitri Filipovic
“Wednesday night’s offensive outburst from the twins was a breath of fresh air against the improving Flames. Henrik beat his regular-season total from all of last year with four shots, one of which got past Karri Ramo, while Daniel tallied two goals and an assist on a team-high seven shots. New winger Brandon Sutter came along for the ride with a two-point night and three shots on goal.” – Carol Schram
