It’s hard to know what to think of this team at times. One night you feel like saying that things will turn out alright, the next you’ll want to burn down Rogers Arena and start from scratch. This week? The Canucks didn’t give any opportunity to have strong opinions. Every single game ended up with the lamest final score in hockey; where teams can’t be seen as good or bad at any side of the game. It’s practically standings purgatory, a situation that leaves you craving a definitive answer one way or another sooner than later.
In the meantime, though, it made for some interesting content. Let’s take a look back at some of the best posts on Canucks Army this week!

The Games

“I get that Willie Desjardins will be second guessed for that decision, but it was the right one. Vrbata has taken 90 career shootout attempts – he’s the third most frequent shootout taker who is currently active in hockey – and has scored on better than 43 percent of those attempts. With a sample that large, we’re beginning to approximate his ‘true talent’ level. And Vrbata made a very nice move, but was turned aside by an even better Schneider save.” – Thomas Drance

“Don’t let the scoreline confuse you, in between the five goals in this game was a whole lot of boring hockey. But what happened on the scoreboard is a good thing for Canucks fans. Of course, the 3-2 win is enough to warm your heart on this cold Wednesday night, but Radim Vrbata notched two goals for the Canucks, finally breaking out of his slump and showing glimpses of the form he possessed for the majority of the 2014-15 campaign.” – Matthew Henderson

“Some would argue that overtime wasn’t the greatest look on the Canucks tonight – based on a bench minor which put them shorthanded for much of the frame – but I thought they acquitted themselves relatively well on the whole. I’d like it if McCann got the odd shift or two, but how does one gripe about the young guns deployment in a game where Bo Horvat is one the ice with less than a minute left in a tied game? I mean, really…” -JD Burke

“For the Canucks though, you can understand why the appeal of adding Hamonic to the defense corps would be largely dependent on the club’s ability to roll out a very good and very affordable top-four group. A group that would include Tanev. Removing Tanev from the roster, even if it nets you a comparable piece like Hamonic, is just treading water.” -Thomas Drance
“For another, far more important reason, it’s frustrating because it has the potential to damage Frank Corrado’s career long term. A 22-year old player with limited NHL experience is going to be unfairly disadvantaged by sitting idly for an extending period of time. Corrado has played just 52 regular season games since the beginning of 2014-15 (NHL and AHL combined) while his peers have played more than 100 regular season games in the same span. When Corrado finally gets the call in game 25 or 30 (or beyond), do you really think he’s going to be able to put his best foot forward against a bunch of opponents who are in midseason form? What are the chances that he plays well enough to keep lineup spot after that?” -Jeremy Davis
“Vigneault’s series of fun comments prompted Boston Bruins reporter Matt Kalman to suggest on Friday that the Rangers bench boss is dealing with a case of 2011 PTSD. I’m not sure these are PTSD symptoms Vigneault is displaying though. Complaining about the refereeing, subconscious exaltation of the Sedin twins, a cold hatred for Brad Marchand, and clinging to the memory of 2011-related injustice are really just the common symptoms of Canucks fandom.”  – Thomas Drance
“Separate the Canucks stated goals, the stark reality is that every move should be made towards advancing the health of this club when they can realistically be expected to contend again. Pardon my optimism, but I can’t imagine that happening any sooner than four, maybe five years from now. At that juncture, 38-year old Radim Vrbata likely can’t contribute to the extent that his price tag might warrant. The draft pick or prospect the Canucks might expect in return, most certainly could.” – JD Burke
“Though Lucic is a badass, I think the Canucks should proceed with caution should they opt to chase him in free agency (which I’d think they totally will). Players who make their name with physical play can fall off of a cliff in a hurry, and you’d hate to see Lucic’s homecoming turn sour because of an outsized ticket.” -Thomas Drance
