On Monday’s edition of Canucks Conversation, David Quadrelli and Harman Dayal were joined by the hosts of Blackfish — our Canucks prospect show — Tyson Cole and Dave Hall to select the top 33 picks of the 2026 NHL Draft, which kicks off on Friday. The guys went to pick 33, since the Vancouver Canucks hold the 33rd pick at the top of the second round.
Participants: Harman Dayal, David Quadrelli, Tyson Cole, and Dave Hall.
The guys took turns making selections based on the direction they thought each team would go.
Note: Gavin McKenna was the consensus No. 1 pick, so the other four panelists completed the remainder of the mock draft.
1. Toronto Maple Leafs
Gavin McKenna, LW – Jacob Lazare
2. San Jose Sharks
Ivar Stenberg, LW – Harman Dayal
“I think it’s going to be close, and there’s a debate between Stenberg and Reid there. Obviously, from the Canucks’ perspective, you want Stenberg to fall, but Grier said he’s going to take who he believes is the best player available in that spot.”
3. Vancouver Canucks
Chase Reid, D – Tyson Cole
“Between Carson Carels and Chase Reid, it seems like the Canucks are leaning toward Reid and are really high on him.”
4. Chicago Blackhawks
Carson Carels, D – David Quadrelli
5. New York Rangers
Caleb Malhotra, C – Dave Hall
“The Rangers need a culture setter, and Malhotra is a solid two-way player with awesome character. Easy pick for the Rangers.”
6. Calgary Flames
Viggo Bjorck, C/RW – Harman Dayal
7. Seattle Kraken
Keaton Verhoeff, D – Tyson Cole
8. Winnipeg Jets
Alberts Smits, D – David Quadrelli
“A guy with a pretty high floor who’s close to NHL-ready. I don’t think his ceiling is that high, but he’s going to play NHL games, and I think the Jets target that.”
9. Ottawa Senators
Wyatt Cullen, LW – Dave Hall
“A little early, maybe, but he’s one of the more dynamic players in this draft, and I’m going straight for offence for Ottawa.”
10. Nashville Predators
Daxon Rudolph, D – Harman Dayal
“A high-ceiling defenceman, especially considering how much he produced in the WHL.”
11. St. Louis Blues
Malte Gustafsson, D – Tyson Cole
12. New Jersey Devils
Ethan Belchetz, LW – David Quadrelli
13. New York Islanders
Tynan Lawrence, C – Dave Hall
“This is where it starts to get a little dicey. The Islanders need a bit of everything, but I think they go up the middle here, and it’s a pretty safe pick to put behind Mat Barzal.”
14. Columbus Blue Jackets
Oscar Hemming, LW – Harman Dayal
15. St. Louis Blues
Alexander Command, C – Tyson Cole
16. Washington Capitals
Ryan Lin, D – David Quadrelli
17. Los Angeles Kings
Nikita Klepov, LW – Dave Hall
“Feels like an LA Kings pick. A bit of a high-risk, high-reward guy, but he has all the skill in the world and could be a real game-changer in the top six.”
18. Washington Capitals
Oliver Suvanto, C – Harman Dayal
19. Utah Mammoth
Elton Hermansson, LW – Tyson Cole
20. Buffalo Sabres
Maksim Sokolovskii, D – David Quadrelli
“He’s a truly terrifying human being in one-on-one situations. There isn’t a player he’s afraid of, and everyone is excited about Sokolovskii potentially adding another dimension of speed to his game in the future.”
“That’s a profile I see as a home-run swing, and I’m taking it every time.”
21. Philadelphia Flyers
Adam Novotny, RW – Dave Hall
“He seems like a Philly Flyer and a Rick Tocchet-type player. He’s a one-shot goal scorer and plays every shift like it’s his last.”
22. Pittsburgh Penguins
Tommy Bleyl, D – Harman Dayal
23. Boston Bruins
Ilia Morozov, C – Tyson Cole
24. Vancouver Canucks
Mathis Preston, C/RW – David Quadrelli
“He was talking about being four years old and playing mini-sticks in a Canucks jersey.”
“He was supposed to be a top-10 pick coming into the year, and he’s got loads of skill.”
25. Ottawa Senators
Liam Ruck, RW – Dave Hall
26. New York Rangers
Jack Hextall, C – Harman Dayal
27. San Jose Sharks
Xavier Villeneuve, D – Tyson Cole
28. Montreal Canadiens
William Håkansson, D – David Quadrelli
29. St. Louis Blues
J.P. Hurlbert, RW – Dave Hall
30. Calgary Flames
Marcus Nordmark, LW – Harman Dayal
31. Carolina Hurricanes
Maddox Dagenais, C – Tyson Cole
32. Ottawa Senators
Markus Ruck, C – David Quadrelli
33. Vancouver Canucks
Ryan Roobroeck, C – Dave Hall
“Still an upside swing, but a little safer. Six-foot-three, 215-pound centreman with all the offensive potential in the world.”
“For him, it’s a consistency thing and doing it shift to shift. If they can squeeze that out of him at 33rd overall, you’d be getting a nice steal.”
