The qualifying round of Men’s Hockey at the 2026 Winter Olympics has officially been completed, meaning the Quarterfinal round is now set!
Vancouver Canucks players Filip Hronek (Czechia), David Kampf (Czechia), Elias Pettersson (Sweden), Kevin Lankinen (Finland), and Lukas Reichel (Germany) will be competing in Quarterfinal action on Wednesday. Teddy Blueger and Anri Ravinskis (Latvia) are going home after Latvia’s loss to Sweden on Tuesday.

Czechia beats Denmark, will face Canada

Czechia took care of business against Denmark on Tuesday, although the Danes certainly made it close. After Martin Necas opened the scoring for Czechia early in the second period, Denmark answered back less than five minutes later. It was a tight checking affair, with Denmark sticking to their systems and doing a good job of keeping the Czechs to the outside. Eventually though, David Kampf and Roman Cervenka scored goals just over a minute apart in the second period to give Czechia their largest lead of the night.
Denmark pulled within one before the second period came to a close, but failed to capitalize on two power play opportunities in the third period, and is heading home empty-handed following the loss. With the win, Czechia will face Canada on Wednesday morning. Puck drop is set for 7:40 AM Pacific Time.

Germany beats France, will face Slovakia

Germany knocked off France by a final score of 5-1 on Tuesday, getting a goal and two assists from Leon Draisaitl. They move on to face Slovakia in the Quarterfinal on Wednesday after Slovakia won their group and earned a bye. Puck drop for this game is 3:10 AM.

Switzerland beats Italy, will face Finland

Switzerland did what they were supposed to do and beat Team Italy, who only qualified for the tournament thanks to being the host country of this year’s Games. Italy put together some compelling efforts against Sweden and Slovakia in their first two games, but their last two outings were an 11-0 loss to Finland to close out the preliminary round and a 3-0 loss to Switzerland on Tuesday that eliminated them from the tournament.
Nico Hischier got in on all three of Switzerland’s goals, scoring one and assisting on the other two. He, Roman Josi, and Timo Meier have been important pieces for Switzerland, who now take on a Finnish side that is riding high after putting up 11 goals on Italy in their last game. It’s expected that Juuse Saros will start in goal for the Finns, with Canucks netminder Kevin Lankinen serving as his backup. This one is set for 9:10 AM PT.

Sweden beats Latvia, will face USA

Elias Pettersson vs. JT Miller, anyone? Sweden left little doubt in their 5-1 win over Latvia on Tuesday, getting goals from Adrian Kempe, Gabriel Landeskog, Filip Forsberg, Mika Zibanejad, and William Nylander. Veteran Jacob Markstrom, who has emerged as their number one choice in goal, stopped 20 of 21 Latvian shots.
Sweden will have their hands full when they take on Team USA, who have, as expected, been one of the top teams at this year’s tournament. Auston Matthews has three goals and five total points through three games, while Matthew Tkachuk, Jack Eichel, and Quinn Hughes have also produced at above point-per-game clips. This one is set for 12:10 PM PT.
