Another Canuck from last season has found a new home as it was announced that defenceman Luke Schenn had agreed to terms on a new contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning this morning
As the tweet says, it is a one year deal worth $700,000.
The Canucks appeared to have interest in bringing Schenn back on a new contract but was never able to get a deal done and thus Schenn hit the market and found a new home in Florida.
Schenn had been acquired from the Anaheim Ducks in the trade that saw Michael Del Zotto go the other way. He started his time with the organization with the Comets but was recalled once the injuries piled up. He acquitted himself quite well in the 18 games with the Canucks providing them with a physical presence on their third pair.
Schenn gets a chance to chase a cup with the Lightning after it looked like his NHL career might be over with the Ducks.
The Canucks signed Tyler Myers, Jordie Benn, and Oscar Fantenberg earlier this morning and that was an indication that this rumoured move for Schenn was a done deal.
It will be interesting to see what role he gets with the Lightning but he definitely gives them cheap depth.
