Linden Vey signs with Calgary Flames

Jul 5, 2016, 15:10 EDTUpdated:
Linden Vey has signed a one year two-way contract with the Calgary Flames:
Vey became an un-restricted free agent after the Canucks did not tender a qualifying offer prior to the deadline to do so.
In 41 games with the Canucks last season, Vey posted 4 goals and 11 assists. This was after he was placed on waivers to start the season, which he cleared and then was assigned to Utica, where he put up 3 goals and 12 assists in 26 games in the AHL.
It is unfortunate that the Canucks have lost Vey for nothing, but the trade that brought him in has been dissected ad nauseam. It was a dice roll that Vey was going to translate his AHL success to the NHL, and at times it looked like he was going to do so but never quite made it over the hump.
His personal life had been a major news story recently, and was obviously something that was on his mind throughout the season. A fresh starts somewhere else may be exactly what he needs.
Vey will look to get his career back on track with the Calgary Flames, a team who is in need of some depth players to help get them back into the playoff picture.
Good luck to Vey in Cow-town!
