Jacob Markstrom, who hasn’t suited up between the pipes since February 16th, will undergo knee surgery that will put an end to his 2016-2017 campaign.

“I feel like I’m getting better and better. I feel more comfortable every start. This is a tough finish to the year for me,” said Markstrom, as per the Canucks twitter. “I hate losing more than I love winning, I’m very eager to get back,” Markstrom reiterated.

Through 25 games this season, Markstrom posted a 10-11-3 record while maintaining a 2.63 goals against average, along with a .910 save percentage.

“He’s a good goalie,” said Desjardins, as per The Province. “He can challenge for the number one spot– I’ve got lots of confidence in him.”  Next season, Markstrom’s three-year, 11 million dollar contract extension kicks in, which is coincidentally coming at the time the Canucks will likely part ways with Ryan Miller.

Markstrom could see an increase in his workload next year, hence it being the right call to get surgery and shut him down for the remainder of the year.
