When the Canucks play-in series kicks off at the beginning of August, a person who was a part of their organization before hockey went on pause will be behind enemy lines.

Judd Brackett, the Canucks’ former Director of Amateur Scouting, has been hired by the Minnesota Wild to lead their Amateur Scouting department, according to Michael Russo of The Athletic.

Brackett is well regarded around the league and it was only a matter of time until he was scooped by a team eager to improve their drafting. There were a number of suitors gunning for Brackett’s services, and the former head of the Canucks’ scouting department was unemployed for a total of nine days before deciding on a destination.

The souring of the relationship between Judd Brackett and GM Jim Benning was well documented and met with scrutiny by fans since January when Patrick Johnston of The Province first reported that Brackett and the club may be headed in different directions.

Brackett remained with the Canucks for a total of 12 years — seven as a scout before being promoted to Director of Amateur Scouting prior to the 2015-16 season.
