The Nashville Predators paid up to get right shot defenceman Luke Schenn in free agency.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, Schenn has agreed to the terms with the Predators on a three-year deal with a total value of $8.25 million. The deal carries an annual cap hit of $2.75 million.

After signing with the Canucks two seasons ago, Schenn finished his year with the Toronto Maple Leafs after the Canucks traded him for a third round pick at the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline.

Schenn has an awesome story, as prior to his trade to Vancouver in 2019, he was playing for the Anaheim Ducks’ AHL affiliate and was told by many that perhaps it was time to retire — that the game had become too fast for a player like him to succeed.

Schenn exceeded all expectations with the Canucks basically every time he suited up, and was a mainstay on the top pair playing alongside Quinn Hughes. He brought physicality, fighting ability, and decent puck-moving abilities to go along with all that.

Schenn is the second former Canuck to sign a contract so far this morning, as Oliver Ekman-Larsson signed a one-year deal at $2.5 million with the Florida Panthers earlier in the day.

Schenn will be joined by Ryan O’Reilly in Nashville, as the Predators also signed the veteran centre to a four year deal with a cap hit of $4.5 million. Free agency is officially in full swing!
