Once returning home after a three-game road trip, the Vancouver Canucks held a rare practice on Wednesday morning. Canucks Head Coach Adam Foote met with the media and provided us with an update on some of his team’s injuries:
According to Foote:
Conor Garland is good to go after missing Monday’s game against the Florida Panthers. Sportsnet’s Dan Murphy shared that Garland tweaked something in his first period fight against the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Darren Raddysh on Sunday, which sidelined him on Monday. Garland sits fifth in team scoring with five goals and eight assists for 13 points through 15 games.
Nils Höglander is closer to the 10-week mark of his 8-10-week timeline. Höglander was injured in the Canucks’ second preseason game against the Calgary Flames. He was hit along the boards in the neutral zone in the second period and did not return. The Swede was seen leaving the building in a walking boot and had successful surgery. Ten weeks from September 29 would see Höglander return on December 8 for a contest against the Detroit Red Wings.
Teddy Blueger suffered a setback but hopes to skate in the next few days. Blueger was hurt late in the third period against the Washington Capitals. It appeared he was close to returning when he was seen at Canucks practice in a red non-contact jersey at the beginning of November, but he suffered a setback and has now been out for a month. We’ll see if Blueger can hit at some point during this next week before they hit the road for a California road trip starting on November 26.
Derek Forbort will be out for a while. He played in the first two games of the season and was given the night off against the St. Louis Blues due to maintenance. He did not practice the next day, and the day after that, he was placed on injured reserve. Two weeks after his maintenance day, the Canucks placed Forbort on long-term injured reserve. The 6’4″ defensive defenceman is still without a timeline to return.
The Canucks welcome the Dallas Stars to town on Thursday. It appears Garland will return to the lineup as he skated on a line with Brock Boeser and David Kämpf at Wednesday’s practice.
